The Art of Translation, part 2
It's only a branch like any other
green with the flare of life in it
and if I hold this end, you the other
that means it's broken
broken between us, broken despite us
broken and therefore dying
broken by force, broken by lying
green, with the flare of life in it

Hello
Date: 2007-03-15 04:50 pm (UTC)My LJ is in Russian so it's useless for you but I was impressed by your literature interests (I mean Joyce, Faulkner, Burgess, Rushdie etc) and made up my mind to make friends with you.
Best wishes
Re: Hello
Date: 2007-03-15 06:06 pm (UTC)I'm curious about two things: first, how did you find me? Secondly, why did you choose this old post for your comment?
It's nice to meet you.
Re: Hello
Date: 2007-03-16 08:11 am (UTC)I was looking for someone interested in Salman Rushdie as I've just decided to translate his Satanic Verses into Russain so I wanted to find a native speaker with certain literature interests. And when I saw your list of interests I didn't want to look for smb further. May be you will let me asking you questions on the SV. Anyway it will be a great pleasure just to read the posts of such an educated person.
Regarding the second point - it was a poem about translation (:
I will try to make comments on your posts so that it is a mutual communication if I find something to say.
About my LJ - it's more like a real journal as you know sometimes it's better to say something and you feel you have overcome it. Most of my friends here are my friends in real life.
You are ineterested in Nabokov as far as I understand. So if you want to know something about Russian literature and culture I will try to help you.
So long.

Re: Hello
Date: 2007-03-19 07:57 am (UTC)I'm just trying to get ready for the translation now and it will take some time
Have you read a poem (it's a novel in fact) "Moscow - Petushki" by Russain writer Venedict Yerofeev? It's worth reading, the most remarkable masterpiece written during the Soviet times/ If not I will try to find an electronic version in English for you.
